I don’t know anyone living who would not like an opportunity to revisit and correct something in their past. When we look back we see some lost opportunities and perhaps bad decisions we made, that given the opportunity, and benefit of hindsight, we would have done things differently.

One of the joys of being a believer in Jesus Christ is the ability of God to deal with our past and give us a brand new start in life. As the scriptures say, ‘old things have passed away’. God in Christ Jesus, resolutely dealt with our past. He not only forgave our bad decisions, he also fixes it so it does not affect our future.

The bible says ‘all things have become new’. God has the power to renew our lives. To give us new starts in life. To help us to begin again. What a fantastic opportunity.!!!

But today, I want to talk about the new creation. The bible says ‘if anyone is in Christ Jesus, he is a new creation’. God has actually made us new in many areas and I just want to recount some of them.

  1. A new identity: Before we met Christ we were of the old man, but now we are a new creation. A brand new species of human beings. Those indwelt by God himself.
  2. A new title: ‘a saint’ : Before we were believers in Christ, we were called sinners, now we are called saints.
  3. A new significance: We were slaves of the devil before we met and accepted Jesus Christ, but now in Him we are Children of God and Heirs of God.

4.  A New Position: Before we met Christ, we were banished from God’s presence, but today in Christ, we are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

In addition to all these, He has made us priests, kings, more than conquerors, over-comers and inheritors of the Kingdom of God. WOW. What a new start!!!

Let us Pray: Father thank you that you are the God of new beginnings. I see what you have done for me in Christ Jesus. Father, please fix my past so that it does not negatively impact my future, but as you give me the new future you have for me, my past will be sorted out. Father, I thank you for the new identity, title, significance and position. It is so amazing. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

  1. Wow! What an encouragement. Thank you Jesus for this privilege of starting again.

May I ask you Pastor Charles, how many chances does a fallible (imperfect) human being have to start all over again?

    1. Jide, There is no limit. The bible says a ‘For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, But the wicked stumble in time of calamity.’ Though as humans were are imperfect and fallible, yet we are made righteous by the grace of God. This simply qualifies us for the grace to rise up each time we fall. Seven is God’s perfect number and it also signifies limitlessness. Jesus shed His perfect blood for imperfect men to cleanse us of all our sins, past, present and future. So God has yet more grace for us and all we need to do is reach out and accept this grace and God leans downwards and helps us up again.

  2. Thank you for this Pastor Charles, these “morning dew” words makes one reflect deeper in the word and bring heartfelt praises to the Lord !
New beginning… past forgiven , bad decisions fixed by God to give us a better future … a new start… knowing we are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus… all these wonderful free gifts from God given to us by His Grace ! what an awesome God ! and we just need to have faith in Him to become believer … it is that simple and changes our life .
