Our God is amazing! He equips all His creatures for the habitat He created them to live in. Birds have wings to fly, Fish have fins, animals go on all four and humans have feet to move around. Truth is we are made and equipped to live in the earth successfully. Think about all the faculties God has endowed you with, so you can flourish on planet earth. I think He is worth a few minutes of your praise and thanksgiving for His goodness.

Some years ago, on one of my trips to the Holy Land, I went south towards the Dead Sea, I encountered some of the driest and stark deserts I have ever seen. The Negev desert is really a desert, except that God has supernaturally endowed Israel with the grace to turn the desert into a blossoming garden full of plantations. That is another miracle for further discussions on another day. In the desert we came to En-Gedi, a place made popular as David’s hide out whilst he fled from Saul. Once I settled in and started taking in the area, I could see why David chose the place to hide. It has many waterfalls, caves and very steep, sharp cliffs that are simply dangerous to climb. But the spectacle of En-Gedi for me were the Ibexes or mountain goats, leaping and weaving and climbing these almost vertical cliffs. They are simply a wonder of nature and a testimony to the power of God in creation.

In today’s scripture David tells us that God has made His feet like that of the deer. He was actually referring to the deer that also live in Israel and the wonder of how they climb the mountains and do not fall off. Watching the Ibexes I was struck by this scripture and the significance of it. Moving up in life is fraught with many difficulties and traps that threaten to pull one down with the slightest mistake. But God keeps us steady as we rise up in life and get into higher positions. Many people easily lose their footing once they start going up in life. God will keep you safe and secure and stable. In Jesus name. Success has changed a lot of people. They forget where they came from and how God has been good to them. They become arrogant, conceited and the look down on others. Worse still they forget the God who made them successful. They loose their footing and soon they will come tumbling down. God will make your feet like hinds feet. He will keep you humble and grateful. Jesus the King of kings and Lord of all lords, was able to hold the tension of having all authority and humble enough to serve men. That’s why He said in Matthew 11:28-30 – “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

First we must be yoked to Him and then we can learn from Him, for He is gentle and lowly in heart.

Finally, some just get scared of the dizzying heights of mountain top life. They become immobilised. They can’t move forward, because they become scared of going higher. This is a real problem with a lot of people. They stop short of the best God has for them, because they are afraid to go higher. People of God, let me tell you if you got to the top its not by your power or might. There is a God in heaven that lifted you and placed you there. Don’t become afraid and paralysed by the height of success. Be all God wants you to be and has ordained for your life. God is ahead of you on every mountain and has established a place for you to stand secure even on heights where you do not know how to stand. He is the Most High and if He is with you and behind your success, then you know you will not fall even though the heights are really high.

See how the amplified bible puts the scripture, “He makes my feet like hinds’ feet [able to stand firmly or make progress on the dangerous heights of testing and trouble]; He sets me securely upon my high places.”

God has more for you. The best is yet to come. Climb higher by His grace and remember, He will keep you standing firm in Jesus name. Amen.

Let’s pray: Father God, what an amazing God you are. You are the most High and there is no height you are not able to support your children in. Lord, please help us to not lose our footing as we get promoted in life and as we get raised up by you. Lord, please do not let us stop short of the best you have for us. Help us to always remember to depend on you as you give us greater opportunity to move higher in life. In Jesus name. Amen.
