Key Passage: Proverbs 18:20-21
Key Text: Proverbs 18: 21 – “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
So many times I have met people who say they have nothing! They are not aware of the bag of seeds they have and can sow for an increase. Many successful people become successful because they see what others can’t see and they take advantage of these opportunities. I know you all know the story of the two shoe sales men sent to an underdeveloped country. They both arrived and the first sales man saw that all the people did not wear shoes, so he left saying there was no market for shoes in that place, the second salesman, sent a telegraph back home and said please send more shoes, there is a great potential here, no one wears shoes. Guess who became successful.
Today I want to deal with one bag of seeds we all have and we can sow for our profit and the profit of others. It is the seeds of our words. Someone says words are cheap and they can’t hurt, but history has been largely shaped by words. Actually the bible tells us the ages or eons are framed by the word of God. What we say is important. Our words, though insignificant to us have incredible power to affect the outcome of situations in our lives.
Today’s passage tells us that ‘From the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield of his lips.’ This is quite profound. We see that a man’s stomach is filled and satisfied by the fruit of his mouth. The amplified bible says it like this “0 A man’s [moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil]. So the fruit of our mouth comes from the seeds that come out of our mouth. These seeds are our words. If you lack something and you say you lack that thing, then you would not have it. If you say you have it, because you have seen a promise from God’s word and you believe, you will have it.
Jesus taught a lot on this subject in Matthew 15:11 Jesus said “Hear and understand: it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.” He said quite strongly that our words are powerful and can affect us positively or negatively. Again in Mark 11:23, Jesus said 23 “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”
Jesus said you will have whatever you say. Today, let’s start sowing seeds of positive, God inspired words over our lives, over the lives of our loved ones, over our businesses, over our churches and our nations. Let’s sow seeds of greatness into our children. Let’s sow seeds of hope into the hopeless. Let’s sow seeds of peace into our church members. You words are powerful seeds.
Life and death are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will its fruits. Chose today to speak life, to speak strength, to speak hope and prosperity and health, and in days to come you would eat the fruits of these words.
Let’s Pray: Father God, thank you for reminding me of the power of my words. Thank you also for giving me this powerful bag of seeds. I ask for your grace to speak life into all my situations and to sow seeds of good words into my loved ones. Help me to realise that I can have whatever I say. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
This was lovely. I believe in positive thinking and positive spoken words. Something for you to think about – ‘When we speak we let out a sound waves…. ‘
