Key Text : Jeremiah 23:29 – “Is not my word like fire, declares the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?”
There are times that we come up against stubborn challenges that just simply refuse to budge to the pressure we apply. We try all our human wisdom and ingenuity, but the results remain the same. There are stubborn problems and sometimes the way through is not as hard as we may think.
I can say categorically, that there is no problem on this earth that we live in that will not bow to the word of God. Please just follow my thread of thoughts and see if you agree or disagree at the end of this.
In the scripture above, God says “ Is not my word like fire”. Fire has been known to consume even the most resistant elements. I know they design materials and say they are fire proof, but please don’t let that fool you. There is nothing that is totally fire proof. Most of these materials will melt to fire at certain temperatures. I remember once trying to buy a fireproof door from Germany for our house. It all looked great until my German friend told me, that these doors are only fire proof up to a limit of certain degrees centigrade. The bible tells us that the entire earth will melt under the fire of God. So whatever the problem is, the word of God can rise to temperatures way out of this world’s calculation and burn off that problem. Cancers, tumours, HIV and whatever else they may call these problems, they would all be burnt off by the intense heat of the fire from the word of God.
God also said “is not my word like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?” No matter how big or hard the problem is, God has a hammer fit for the destruction of the rock-like problem. Think about this for a second; how big is God? How powerful is He? How big is the problem? How powerful is the problem? In answering these questions, it become quite obvious, that our so called big problems are like so little in the eyes of the Almighty God. Imagine this, an ant comes to you and says he needs you help in breaking through a small tiny 5 millimetre wall it is trying to get through. Would you just simple blow the rather inconsequential wall with your breath? You don’t need a hammer to break that wall; just a simple gust of air from your mouth will scatter it all. That’s what happened at the walls of Jericho. To Joshua it was a great wall, to God it was a small inconsequential thing and He just blew gently from His mouth and that was the end of the wall.
Another point we should be aware of is that everything is held together by God’s word. There is nothing that is that is not by the word of God. So if God should withdraw His word from something, it simple stops to exist. So God’s word can give and remove existence.
Finally in 2 Peter 1:3-4, we read ‘His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. ‘
God has given us all that we need to be victorious in this life. He has given us His word and we would do well to keep His word in our mouths and in our hearts. Because in speaking the word continuously from our mouth, we are doing what God will do to anything. He speaks and it is done. So as we speak the word of God over our circumstances, we can be sure these circumstances will respond to the living word of God from our mouths.
Let’s Pray: Heavenly Father, Thank you for your powerful word. I believe that you word is more powerful than any other power in your creation and I submit to it. Today, help me to fill my mouth with your word and apply your promises to difficult situations, so that your word can break them in pieces like a hammer or burn them to cinders like fire. Thank you for the victory in your word. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
