Empowered By The Spirit – 12

Key Scripture: Christ in us the hope of glory – Colossians 1:27

Exploring the Dunamis Power of God in Christ and Believers

Still on the exposition of the power of God in the life of a believer through the presence of the Holy Spirit, there are two more words to consider. Dunamis and Ischus. Today, we would explore the Dunamis Power of God in Christ and the Believer.

As the early morning dew sparkles in the dawn light, we are reminded of the awe-inspiring power of God. This power, known as “dunamis” in Greek, is revealed through the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. It’s the same power that manifests in the lives of believers today through the Holy Spirit.

“Dunamis” refers to a miraculous, explosive power—the kind that can part the Red Sea, resurrect the dead, and shake the earth to its core. This is the power that was fully present in Jesus during His time on earth, and it is the same power available to us as His followers.

This is God’s miracle-working power, and it is desperately needed in our world today.

The Bible records countless instances where the dunamis power of God was on full display in the ministry of Jesus. For example, when a woman suffering from a long-term illness touched the hem of Jesus’ garment, “Jesus immediately knowing in Himself that power (dunamis) had gone out of Him” (Mark 5:30). This divine power flowed from Christ, instantly healing her.

Throughout the Gospels, we see Jesus demonstrating the dunamis power of God—calming storms, casting out demons, healing the sick, and even raising the dead. These acts were more than just miracles; they were manifestations of the divine power that resided in Jesus, a power that flowed from His very nature as the Son of God.

However, this dunamis power wasn’t limited to Jesus’ earthly ministry. After His resurrection and ascension, Jesus poured out the same supernatural power upon His followers through the Holy Spirit.

On the day of Pentecost, the disciples were “filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:4). This outpouring of the Spirit empowered them to carry out Christ’s commission, spreading the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

The book of Acts documents the incredible works done through the dunamis power of the Holy Spirit in the early Church. From Peter and John healing a lame man at the temple (Acts 3) to the apostles performing “many wonders and signs” (Acts 2:43), the same power that was in Christ continued to work mightily through His followers, leading countless people to faith.

As believers today, we must remember that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). His power has not diminished. The dunamis power of God is still accessible to us through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised, “You shall receive power (dunamis) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you” (Acts 1:8).

When we yield ourselves to the work of the Holy Spirit, we can walk in the same supernatural power that Jesus demonstrated. The apostle Paul reminds us that it is “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). Through the Spirit, we are empowered to do even greater works than Jesus did (John 14:12).

As the morning dew catches the first light of day, it reflects the dunamis power of our mighty God. Let us abide in Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to work through us, so that we, too, might do great works for His Kingdom. May we confidently walk in the dunamis of God, bringing glory to the name of Jesus.

Let’s Pray Lord Jesus, You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. Rekindle our faith to access and release Your dunamis power in our lives. Help us bring Your miracles to those in need, declaring Your glory. Lord, visit us with Your power once again. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
