Empowered by the Holy Spirit – 15

Key Scripture: But You Shall Receive Power – Acts 1:8

I promised to send this yesterday. Apologies. I wanted to give you a shabbat rest!

Unleashing the Power of God: Kratos, Dunamis, Exousia, Ishcus, and Energeo
As followers of Christ, we are called to walk in the fullness of God’s power and authority. The scriptures reveal a profound interplay between five key Greek words that unlock the depths of divine empowerment available to believers – Kratos, Dunamis, Exousia, Ishcus, and Energeo. Let’s dive deeper and discover how these mighty concepts can transform our lives.

Kratos: The Dominion and Superiority of God
The word “Kratos” speaks of God’s absolute sovereignty, supreme dominion, and unrivaled superiority. It denotes the mighty, unshakable strength that underlies the throne of the Almighty. As Ephesians 1:19 declares, “[This power] is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms.”

The Kratos of God is like the bedrock of a skyscraper – it is the immovable foundation upon which the entire structure rests. No matter how furious the winds or how violent the earthquakes, the building stands firm because of the solidity of its base. In the same way, the Kratos of God assures us that our faith is built upon an unshakable reality – that our Heavenly Father reigns supreme over all creation, and that no power can prevail against Him (Romans 8:31-39). This awareness empowers us to stand firm in the face of any adversity, for we know that the Kratos of God covers and protects us. Dominion Power

Dunamis: The Explosive Power of the Holy Spirit
The word “Dunamis” points to the dynamic, miraculous power of the Holy Spirit. It is the supernatural energy that fueled the ministries of Jesus and the early church. As Acts 1:8 promises, “You will receive power (Dunamis) when the Holy Spirit comes on you.”

Dunamis power is like a stick of dynamite – it is an explosive force that demolishes strongholds and shatters the impossible. When the first disciples were filled with the Dunamis of the Spirit, they performed signs, wonders, and mighty deeds that glorified God (1 Corinthians 12:7-11). They healed the sick, cast out demons, and turned the world upside down through the sheer power of the Holy Spirit. And as we yield to that same Dunamis today, we too can access the very same power that raised Christ from the dead (Romans 8:11). Shattering Power

Exousia: The Authority to Act
“Exousia” denotes the God-given right, privilege, and authority to exercise power. It is the mandate and jurisdiction that allows believers to wield the Dunamis of the Spirit with confidence and effectiveness.

Exousia is like a royal scepter – it is the symbol of delegated authority, the emblem of one who has been entrusted with the power to rule. Jesus declared, “All authority (Exousia) in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matthew 28:18). And as His followers, we share in that Exousia – the right to declare the Kingdom of God, cast out demons, and move mountains through faith (Mark 16:17-18, Matthew 17:20).

When we operate in the Exousia of Christ, we no longer struggle with insecurity or timidity. We boldly advance the purposes of God, knowing that the very authority of Heaven backs our every step. Like the centurion who said to Jesus, “I too am a man under authority” (Matthew 8:9), we can command the forces of darkness to submit to the power of the Almighty. Power to exercise Power

Ishcus: The Strength and Might to Prevail
The word “Ishcus” speaks of the inherent strength, might, and fortitude that empowers us to overcome every obstacle. It is the supernatural stamina that enables us to persevere in the face of adversity and emerge victorious.

Ishcus is akin to the mighty sinews and muscles of a champion wrestler. No matter how intense the match, no matter how fierce the opponent, the wrestler prevails because of the raw power coursing through their body. As the Apostle Paul proclaimed, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Ishcus) (Philippians 4:13). This Ishcus might is what allows us to stand firm against the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-11), and to endure hardships with unwavering resolve (2 Timothy 2:3).

When we walk in the Ishcus of God, we become unshakable. No weapon formed against us can prosper, for the strength of the Almighty courses through our veins. Like the young David facing the towering Goliath, we can confidently declare, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:37). Sustaining Power

Energeo: The Divine Energy that Activates
The word “Energeo” denotes the active, dynamic, and effectual working of God’s power within us. It is the supernatural energy that causes the Kratos, Dunamis, Exousia, and Ishcus of God to be manifested in our lives.

Energeo is akin to the electric current that powers a machine. Without that spark of energy, the machine lies dormant and inert. But when the current is activated, the machine springs to life, whirring and humming with dynamic power. As Ephesians 3:20 declares, “[God] is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power (Dunamis) that is at work (Energeo) within us.” When we yield to the Energeo of the Spirit, the seemingly impossible becomes possible. Mountains are moved, the sick are healed, and captives are set free.

The Energeo of God is the divine spark that ignites the power of Heaven in our lives. It is the catalyst that transforms our weakness into strength, our fear into boldness, and our despair into hope. Like a match striking a flame, the Energeo of the Spirit kindles a blaze that cannot be extinguished. Effective Power

Unleashing the Power of God in Our Lives
Kratos, Dunamis, Exousia, Ishcus, and Energeo – these five Greek words paint a profound picture of the power available to every believer in Christ. As we embrace these truths, we unlock the door to a life of supernatural victory, supernatural ministry, and supernatural transformation.

To apprehend and activate this power, we must:

Cultivate an awareness of God’s supreme Kratos and sovereignty – know that He reigns supreme over all creation, like the unshakable bedrock that supports a mighty skyscraper.
Surrender to the Dunamis of the Holy Spirit – invite the explosive power of the Spirit to fill and empower us, like a stick of dynamite demolishing every stronghold.
Walk in the Exousia authority of Christ – boldly declare the Kingdom of God and exercise our God-given mandate, wielding the scepter of delegated power.
Rely on the Ishcus strength of God – draw upon His might to overcome every obstacle and persecution, like a champion wrestler prevailing through raw power.
Yield to the Energeo working of the Spirit – allow the divine energy of Heaven to flow through us and manifest the impossible, igniting a blazing fire that cannot be extinguished.
As we do these things, we will see the power of God unleashed in our lives in extraordinary ways. Mountains will be moved, captives will be set free, and the world will be forever changed by the unstoppable force of our faith. Let us arise and walk in the fullness of God’s power – for the glory of His name!

Let’s Pray: Father God, we proclaim today that Power belongs to You! You are not just powerful, You are all powerful. Omnipotent. No one really can plumb the depths of your power. Like it was said in the book of Job 26:14 – These are just the beginning of all that he does, merely a whisper of his power. Who, then, can comprehend the thunder of his power?” Lord today, we yield and cry out from the depths of our hearts, show your power in our lives! Let this world know that we serve You the All Powerful God. Thank You for all You do for us. In Jesus name we pray! Amen
