The Spirit of the Lord Will Rest Upon Him – Isaiah 11:2

In our exploration of the Menorah’s beauty and significance, we turn to its seven branches, each reflecting a unique manifestation of the Holy Spirit in Jesus the Messiah and His followers. These branches correspond to the Seven Spirits of the Lord prophesied in Isaiah 11:2:

The Spirit of the Lord
The Spirit of Wisdom
The Spirit of Understanding
The Spirit of Counsel
The Spirit of Might
The Spirit of Knowledge
The Spirit of the Fear of the Lord
It’s important to clarify that the Spirit of the Lord is not seven separate entities, but rather seven expressions or offices of the Holy Spirit (Ruach Hakadosh) active in the life of the Messiah.

The Central Branch: The Spirit of the Lord
The central branch represents the Spirit of the Lord, denoted by the capitalized “LORD,” which refers to God’s name, YAHWEH. This indicates that the Messiah embodies all that Yahweh is. Jesus being “Lord” is not up for debate; He is indeed the Lord of Lords. But why delve deeper into this?

The term “Lord” in Hebrew, “Adon,” also implies ownership—much like the title deed of a house. (landlord). In Psalm 24:1, we read, “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.” This ownership speaks to responsibility. Jesus came to take responsibility for the world, as highlighted in Luke 19:10: “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

At just twelve years old, Jesus declared, “Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” (Luke 2:49). He embraced the title “Son of Man” to affirm His role in redeeming humanity—demonstrating that through man, redemption is possible.

Embracing Responsibility
At the core of this Spirit of Lordship is a commitment to accepting responsibility for God’s creation. Jesus willingly took on this role to save humanity from eternal separation. As expressed in Psalm 40:6-8, God desires obedience over sacrifice:

“Sacrifice and offering You did not desire;
My ears You have opened.
Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.
Then I said, ‘Behold, I come;
In the scroll of the book it is written of me.
I delight to do Your will, O my God,
And Your law is within my heart.’”

Hebrews 10:5 echoes this sentiment: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me.” Jesus took on the responsibility of our salvation.

In the same way, when the Spirit of the Lord rests upon us, we are called to take responsibility for advancing the Kingdom and discipling the nations.

The Spirit of Sonship
Integral to the Spirit of Lordship is the Spirit of Sonship. This concept transcends gender; it emphasizes maturity and responsibility. Those who walk in the Spirit of Lordship are those who accept their identity as sons and daughters in the Kingdom, taking responsibility for creation in whatever context God places them.

May the Spirit of Lordship empower you today!

Let’s Pray
Holy Spirit, fill our hearts with the Spirit of Lordship today. Enable us to accept responsibility for the Kingdom of God and teach us how to be true sons and daughters of God, in Jesus name we pray. Amen.
