Flavoured with Favour: When Divine Seasoning Turns Life’s Soup Sweet

I was just meditating on the Lord when this idea dropped into my heart and I knew the Lord was leading me to write this piece too! Have you ever eaten a bland soup? You take a spoonful, hoping for a burst of flavor, only to be greeted with a watery disappointment. It’s not that the ingredients are bad—they’re just missing the right seasoning. Life, my friends, can sometimes feel like that bland soup.
But when you’re flavoured with favour, oh, the difference it makes!
Divine favour is the ultimate seasoning. It doesn’t just make life tolerable; it makes it delightful, enriching every experience with a hint (or a heaping spoonful) of joy, ease, and blessing. Let’s unpack how this heavenly flavouring works, with some biblical seasoning to spice things up.
Favour Finds You Where You Are
Think of Joseph, the guy with the fancy coat and a knack for dreaming big (Genesis 37). Life threw him into some unsavoury situations—betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and jailed. Yet, the Bible repeatedly says, “The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man” (Genesis 39:2).
How is being thrown into a pit or locked in prison “prosperous”? Divine favour, my friend! Wherever Joseph went, favour followed, like a heavenly sous-chef, ensuring that every bitter ingredient was transformed into something savoury. Even in prison, he was put in charge. Talk about being flavour-packed in the most unlikely places!
Favour Turns Ordinary Into Extraordinary
Now, let’s chat about Esther, the ultimate underdog story (Esther 2-7). Here’s a young Jewish girl in exile who becomes queen—not because of her resume or her connections but because divine favour sprinkled her life like salt on French fries.
When she approached the king uninvited—a move that could have cost her life—favour made her experience enjoyable rather than dreadful. Instead of being shown the door (or the gallows), she was welcomed with open arms and a royal banquet invitation. Favour took Esther from obscurity to royalty, from “Who’s that?” to “That’s her!“
Favour Makes the Hard Look Easy
Divine favour doesn’t mean life will be without challenges; it just means those challenges won’t taste bitter. Take David, for instance. While everyone else saw a giant named Goliath and thought, “Yikes, that’s a lot of man!” David saw him and thought, “With God’s favour, this guy’s going down faster than yesterday’s manna.”
And down Goliath went, with just a sling and a stone (1 Samuel 17). Favour made what should have been an impossible battle look like a child’s game. When divine favour seasons your life, the heavy burdens feel light, and the impossible becomes not just possible but laughably easy.
Favour Adds Joy to the Journey
Let’s not forget Peter. This guy went fishing all night and caught nothing—zip, nada, zero fried fish or fish pepper soup for dinner (Luke 5). Then Jesus showed up and said, “Let’s go fishing again.” Peter probably thought, “Rabbi, you stick to teaching, I’ll stick to fishing.”
But because Jesus was on the boat, divine favour turned a fruitless night into a net-breaking, boat-sinking haul of fish. Peter went from “This is the worst day ever” to “Somebody pinch me, this is amazing!” That’s what favour does—it brings joy and abundance where frustration once reigned.

The Secret Sauce: God’s Presence
Here’s the thing: divine favour isn’t something you can buy at the heavenly supermarket or earn by being extra holy. It flows from God’s presence in your life. Psalm 5:12 says, “For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield.”
Favour isn’t just sprinkled on random people like fairy dust. It comes to those who walk with God, trusting Him in every circumstance. It’s like cooking with the Master Chef—He knows exactly how much favour to add to make your life taste just right.
Adding Humour to Life’s Recipe
Imagine Moses at the Red Sea (Exodus 14). The Egyptians are charging, the Israelites are panicking, and Moses is probably thinking, “This is not what I signed up for, Lord.” But favour was at work. The sea parted, and the Israelites crossed on dry land. I like to imagine Moses, staff in hand, turning to the people and saying, “I told you it would work. Who doubted me?”
Divine favour often makes life’s impossible moments feel almost comedic. It’s like God saying, “Watch this!” while you stand there wondering how it’s all going to work out.
Your Life, Flavoured with Favour
So how do you get this divine seasoning in your life? It’s simple: invite the Master Chef, Jesus, into your kitchen. Let Him take your bland, overcooked, underwhelming life and sprinkle it with His favour. He’ll add the perfect mix of grace, joy, and provision, ensuring that every experience—not just the mountaintops but also the valleys—is enjoyable.
A Prayer for Favour
Dear Lord,
Thank You for being the ultimate Chef of my life. I ask that You season my days with Your divine favour. Let it turn my trials into triumphs, my sorrows into joy, and my efforts into extraordinary results. May Your presence go before me and make even the hardest moments sweet. Thank You for making my life not just palatable but delightful. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
So go ahead, my friend. Walk into today flavoured with favour. Life’s soup just got a lot sweeter!
