Names of Jesus Series – 1 – Alpha

Day 1: The Alpha

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, says the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” – Revelation 1:8 (NKJV)

Anecdote: As the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve, Sarah stood on her balcony, gazing at the fireworks lighting up the night sky. Each burst of color represented new beginnings, fresh hopes, and dreams yet to be fulfilled. Last year had brought its share of challenges, but as she welcomed the new year, she felt a stirring in her heart—a longing for renewal and purpose. That night, she made a promise to herself: to seek clarity and guidance for the path ahead.

Much like Sarah, as we embark on a new year, we are presented with opportunities for fresh starts. This is where Jesus, the Alpha, comes into play.

Defining the Name: The name “Alpha,” the first letter of the Greek alphabet, symbolizes the beginning. In Revelation 1:8, Jesus identifies Himself as the Alpha, proclaiming His role as the source of all things. He was present at the dawn of creation, setting the universe into motion, and He remains the initiator of every significant moment in our lives. As the Alpha, Jesus assures us that He is with us at the start of every journey, ready to guide us into the unknown.

Application to Our Lives: At the beginning of this new year, reflecting on Jesus as the Alpha invites us to embrace the possibilities that lie ahead. Like Sarah, we can look forward with anticipation, knowing that every dream and aspiration we carry is rooted in Him. When we feel overwhelmed by uncertainty, we can lean into Jesus, the Alpha, who started this journey with us and continues to lead us.

As you set your goals and intentions for the year, consider inviting the Alpha into your plans. Pray for His wisdom and direction, trusting that He knows the path ahead. With each step, remind yourself that the Alpha is not just the beginning of your year but the One who guides you through every season of life.

Prayer for Revelation: Dear Lord, thank You for being the Alpha, the beginning of all things. As I enter this new year, help me to recognize Your presence in every aspect of my life. May I trust in Your plan and purpose, knowing that You are leading me into a future filled with hope. Reveal to me the ways You are guiding me, and may I find peace in Your sovereignty. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
