Today I want to explore one of the most liberating aspects of God’s grace. Grace in itself is liberating, but this aspect is doubly liberating. I am sure we recognise in ourselves, some weaknesses, that makes us feel, unworthy, unable and sometimes plain useless. We feel we are undeserving of somethings, just because we see our failings, flaws or because we simply don’t qualify according to human standards.

The great Apostle Paul, had a thorn in his flesh. No one knows for certain what it was. Some say it was a physical infirmity, some say it was a person who kept on harassing his life. Others have gone as far as saying it was a demonic entity that simply plagued him. Some said it was his failing eyesight. Whatever it was, it really troubled Paul that he cried out to God for deliverance. God’s response was simple but final. If I were to paraphrase, it would be something like this, “Paul, I know your weaknesses, I know how it makes you feel, but I am bigger than your weaknesses and I will carry you and use you despite your weaknesses. Actually, Paul, the weaker you are, the more of my strength you attract. So lean on me and I would swallow up your weaknesses in the strength of my grace.”

Ps 103:14 says – ‘For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.’ And Ps 139:15 says “My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.”

God knows us so well. He knows what we like and don’t like, he knows our strengths and our weaknesses and despite all these flaws, He loves us so much. God helps us with our weaknesses, by releasing His grace to strengthen us in those weak areas. We simply need to learn to call on Him, lean on Him and trust Him to help us.

One of the most liberating aspects of this grace is God qualifying the unqualified. God blessing the underserved. God enabling the ‘unables’ and disables. God strengthening the weak. Just read the story of Mephiboseth in 2 Samuel 9 and get a glimpse of the God of the weak.

So today if you feel undeserving, under qualified, unable to achieve something, remember that God has a special grace for you to help you in this situations. If you have been trying to achieve something for a while now and you have repeatedly failed at it, try asking God for His grace in this area. You would be amazed at the results.

Let us Pray: Father, you are the God of the weak and the friend of sinners. I need your strength in the areas where I am weak. There are things I want to achieve, but I feel unable and under qualified to do them. Please release the grace for me to do them. Father I also need your grace to help me overcome the personal flaws in me that always seems to hinder me from becoming what you want me to be. Help me Lord and I thank you, because you said your strength is perfected in my weakness. I boldly say I am strong now, because of your strength in me. In Jesus name I have prayed. Amen.
