Poverty is a consequence of the fall and it was never God’s plan that man will lack or be in dire need of resources to live well. I think I need to repeat this. It was never God’s will for man to be poor. Just cast your mind back to the creation story in Genesis and how God created everything, then planted a special garden and then placed man in there. Eden means “Delight”. That means God placed man in a delightful place. I can’t see poverty and delightfulness coming together or co-existing.

If you have been in the vice grip of poverty, you would know that it cannot be God’s will, just like sickness and even death are not His plan for man. Some families have been poor for generations and there seems to be no way out. Today I want to show you The Way out. Jesus said “I am The Way…”

The full verse reads as follows: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

Coming out of poverty and becoming rich is also a manifestation of God’s grace through Christ Jesus. As we read, Jesus was very rich, not in earthly terms, but as God, and He became poor, when He came to the earth, that we, through His act of making Himself poor, might become rich. Amazing. Derek Prince calls this the divine exchange of the Cross!

This is a grace gift. Jesus the Rich, condescended and picked up Man the poor from the dust and ash heaps of life and raised us up to sit with Him as princes. Hard work is not a guarantee that you would come out of poverty. Some of the hardest workers in this world are very poor. Intelligence and education is no guarantee of escape from poverty. I’m sure you know many very intelligent and well-educated poor people. It takes the grace of Jesus Christ to make you and I rich.

Permit me to share a couple of scriptures with you, Ps 40:1-3 – “I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.2 He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.”

1Chron 29:12 – Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.

Ps 113: 7-8 – He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people.

God has to draw us out of poverty. All we need to do is call out to Him and receive this special grace to be free from poverty and be rich from Jesus. Remember, it is from His fullness that we receive grace for grace. Its time to get out of poverty and become rich!!

Let us pray: Father today I want to thank you for you plans for me. I know you have not planned for me to be poor or live in poverty. You plan for me is to live in a delightful place. Thank you for the provisions of the cross and the gift of grace. Today I ask you for the grace to come out of poverty and be rich in Jesus Christ. I proclaim that Jesus has become poor with my poverty and I have been made rich with His richness. I am Rich in Jesus name. Amen.

Ps. Rich is not a curse word, it is God’s word.

  1. Gudmornin my father in the LORD am realy enjoy the word of progrese i read this morning.I thank GOD as i come acrose the website.

  2. That Jesus said ‘I am the Way..’ is a statement we usually allude to salvation only. That He is ‘the Way’ out of poverty is actually an eye opener! Thinking of it – it has to be because He did say He was anointed to preach the Gospel to the poor. So then, how do we follow him to being rich?
