Key Text: Galatians 2:22 – But the fruit of the Spirit is….

Our Pastor used to say, “Charisma is free, but Character is what we give God.” This saying encapsulates a profound truth: while our gifts may open doors, it is our character that keeps them open. Today, I want to continue our series, Empowered by the Spirit, by exploring the fruit of the Spirit as outlined in Galatians 5:22-24:
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
I have long believed that every spiritual breakthrough is wrapped in one or two of these fruits. What do I mean by this? To experience a true breakthrough and avoid the enemy’s traps, we must crucify the flesh and instead lean into the fruit of the Spirit.
Fleshly Actions
Consider the story of a young man named David, who faced a difficult situation at work. Under pressure, he erupted in anger during a meeting, alienating his colleagues and damaging relationships. His fleshly reaction seemed justified at the moment, but it only led to deeper conflict and isolation.
Spirit-Led Actions
Contrast this with a story of Sarah, who found herself in a similar stressful situation. Instead of reacting out of frustration, she paused, took a deep breath, and chose to respond with kindness and patience. By acknowledging her emotions but refusing to let them control her, she fostered a productive dialogue and restored harmony among her team.
Both David and Sarah faced the same circumstances, but their choices reflected different responses—one rooted in the flesh and the other led by the Spirit.

The Power of the Spirit
When we choose to walk by the Spirit and embody the fruit of the Spirit, we effectively render the enemy’s schemes powerless. The fruit of the Spirit represents the very character of God, the essence of Christ. As we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, these traits should flow from us—but they require our active participation.
Many believers struggle here, often forgetting that walking in the Spirit is a deliberate choice. You can lash out in anger or choose self-control. You can act selfishly or extend generosity. You can respond with harshness or choose kindness. Each of these responses is a choice, and in yielding to the Holy Spirit, we align ourselves with God’s ways rather than our fleshly desires.
Encouragement to Cultivate the Fruit
As we meditate on these truths, let us remember that cultivating the fruit of the Spirit is not merely about personal improvement; it is about reflecting God’s character to the world around us.
In a world filled with chaos and division, let us strive to embody love, joy, peace, and the other fruits listed in Galatians. As we do so, we not only experience personal breakthroughs but also become vessels of God’s grace and truth to those around us.
Let’s actively choose to cultivate these fruits in our lives, allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us, guide us, and transform us into the image of Christ.
May we all be empowered by the Spirit to live out these qualities and bring glory to God in every aspect of our lives.
Let us Pray:
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit. We ask for Your help in cultivating the fruit of the Spirit in our lives. Fill us with Your love, joy, and peace. Teach us to be patient, kind, and good, reflecting Your character in all we do.
Grant us faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, so we may choose Your ways over our fleshly desires. May the fruit of the Spirit shine through us, drawing others to You and bringing glory to Your name.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
